GOD
WHO IS THIS GOD WE SERVE?
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God. How can we even fathom God? He was and is there from the beginning. He alway was and always will be. I can't even begin to wrap my mind around that. Our lives exist in life and death. He exists eternally, without beginning and without end, so really, there is no way we can comprehend that! Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, "I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’"
Exodus 34:6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,
Compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abouding in love and faithfulness. Sounds like Jesus, huh? Jesus is God. God is Jesus. When I'm truly down, when I know I failed others, when I have sinned, it is so comforting to know these things about God!
Hebrews 1:1-3 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
If you have seen Jesus, you have seen the Father.
I realize some people have difficulty with the fact that Jesus is God and God is Jesus.
Let's look at John 1:1-14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
In verse one, we establish that the Word was there in the beginning, was with God and was God. Who is the Word? Verse 14 says the Word became flesh and lived among us. Who did that? Jesus! It is just so simple, yet we try to make it so complicated!
God's character is revealed to us in the Word of God, the Bible. We need to know the Word to know God. We need a relationship with Him. We can't get to know Him if we don't spend time with Him, talk to Him, and listen to Him!
Study your bible. Read it cover to cover. Don't just take what others say about it. Find out for yourself the great treasures God wants to reveal to you about Himself.
Prayer:
Father, please reveal your true nature to me. Show me Who you are. Teach me to love you, to listen to you, most of all, to know you! Amen!
